Maten Al-Sahel is a small sized town in Tartous on the coast of Syria , about 300 Km to the northwest of Damascus the capital , also it is within fairly easy to reach Almaten from Lattakia 80Km north and Tartous16km south

Geographically
Almaten is situated on the top of mountain about 300 m above the level of the sea and looks down upon the coastal lands from the western side of the town with a wonderful sight , the distance from the Tartous-Lattakia high way is four km and it is a sort of difficult mountainous road between olive trees fields
The village is surrounded by green valleys, and there are many roads cross these valleys and mountains and they are suitable for sport activities such as walking, and cycling specially in spring times : March, April and May

 

Demographics and Services
The area around Almaten is known to have been settled since the 18th century
Total population of Almaten is about 3500 , a big number of them are living outside Almaten as they have begun to immigrate since the 19th century , the first batch of immigrants was towards Latin and South America (Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina, …),then by the fifties of last century people began to immigrate to the USA, Caribbean Islands, Canada, and Europe  but in the last few years the most of immigration is done to the rich Gulf States : Kuwait, KSA, Dubai, Qatar
The Educational level in Almaten is extremely high as the percentage of the illiteracy among the new generation is almost 0%, and the most of
population are holding high degrees in many fields
We have in Al-Maten all the requirements of modern life as electrical networks, Phones, mobile coverage, health center, and a developing transport system includes: two buses and many private cars and mini-buses

 

Economy:
The sources of income in Almaten based on: Agriculture, Governmental employment and Immigration
Agriculture: is still the traditional job in Al-Maten up till now as more than 90% depend on it as the main source of income, Tomato in Green houses and Olive oil are the most important crops produced in Almaten

 

Climate:
The climate is temperate and Mediterranean with hot, dry summers Max 36C and cool , variably rainy winters Min 0C
